At the end of the academic year there's a period where students leave their accommodation and move on. The Big Clear Out distribute bags and ask students to leave out their donations before they go.
I was furloughed a couple of weeks after the covid crisis kicked off and lockdown began. I looked for volunteer work, expecting to be able to do a bit of shopping for the vulnerable or to distribute food parcels but by the time I was available the volunteering organisations were over subscribed - god bless the people of Leeds!
I did eventually manage to find the "Leeds Corona Support" organisation with a WhatsApp chat where occasional messages are sent asking for volunteers - and that's where I heard of the Big Clear Out.
